April 17, 2018

Taking a break from skiing and looking for some no-cost activities?  Read below for out top 5 FREE activities to enjoy while on your Lake Tahoe Vacation.

1.  Spend the day at a beach
Play on the lakeshore beaches at Commons Beach, Kiva Beach, or Kings Beach State Recreational Area.  Commons and Kings Beach have a livelier and busier vibe, however there is an abundance of lakeshore (and lake!) to explore.  Kiva Beach will give you the solitude you need to enjoy a relaxing vacation.

2.  Hike to Mount Rose
Visit the third highest peak in Lake Tahoe.  Very accessible to drive to, however test your hiking skills with a bit of a challenge to get to the top of 10,778 feet.  Relish views over the Mount Rose ski resort, Reno City, Washoe Valley, and Lake Tahoe.  Allow about 4 - 6 hours t
o complete the hike by an average hiker.

3.  Play Donner Memorial State Park and Museum
Donner Park has a pleasant beach area that the whole family can enjoy.  It is smaller than the other beaches around the lake, however the sand is pristine and the swimming area is protected for the kiddos.  If you need a break from the sun or if weather becomes inclement, take a visit to the onsite museum where you can learn about local history, geology, and get a glimpse of what it was like for the pioneers to make their way to the Nevada range.

4.  Explore the Taylor Creek Visitor Center and Trails
The Taylor Creek Visitor Center is FREE to enter and is located near Camp Richardson on the south shore of Lake Tahoe.  Both children and adults will enjoy hands on exploration of the flora and fauna.  There are also paved trails and bridges around the marshlands to explore.  You can go on a guided or self guided walk on the interpretive trails.  Be sure to check out the underground 'aquarium' where you will see a part of the Taylor Creek.  This is fun for the whole family!
